About Me
Katie O'Loughlin, IBCLC, CLC
I am a Doylestown based IBCLC, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and CLC, Certified Lactation Counselor, and breastfeeding mom of two. With a combined breastfeeding experience of 6 years, I have the first hand experience to understand the challenges that many moms face. I am excited to combine this personal experience with my professional education to bring infant feeding and lactation support services to families in the privacy of their own home.
After having my first child I quickly realized how little I knew what to expect when breastfeeding. The damage that my son's bad latch did to me in the first few days led to us starting out exclusively pumping and bottle feeding. With the help of the Lactation Consultant I was working with, I was able to to begin addressing the challenges my son and I were experiencing through a personalized plan based on where we were starting, and my goals for breastfeeding. Between these one on one visits, and through attending a support group held at our pediatrician's office, I was able to see and feel improvement, gain confidence, and eventually transition to nursing at the breast. This experience inspired me to go back to school to become a Lactation Consultant. After completing the necessary prerequisites, I was accepted into University of California San Diego's Lactation Consultant program. Through this program I completed didactic education and over 300 hours of clinical experience. I also concepted, created, and led a cohort of classmates in study sessions to prepare for certification and board exams. In addition to the lactation education I have completed, I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Corporate Communications from Drexel University and spent over 10 years in corporate Human Resources before beginning my own HR consultancy.
